Origin of Halloween

Halloween, as we know it today, is a recent convention. However, its true origin is centuries old! Flashback more than 2,000 years ago, the essence of today’s Halloween began as an ancient Celtic tradition, also called the festival of Samhain, where people would wear customs and light bonfires to scare off ghosts.

Samhain was celebrated on October 31st, the night where ghosts of the dead would return to the earth. These spirits were believed to cause trouble and damage crops, so the festival was used as a mechanism to warry off dark forces.

In the following centuries, this Celtic tradition suffered influence by the catholic church, who tried to replace the Samhain festival with All Saints Day – a November 1st celebration to honor saints and Christian martyrs. At the time, All Saints Day was called All-Hallows, and the eve before the event, the traditional night of Samhain was called All-Hallows Eve. It is from here that the name Halloween comes from. However, traditions have changed quite a bit.

Today Halloween traditions are more commercial rather than religious or ritualistic. Yes, past traditions like customs are still prevalent. However, for the most part, today’s traditions surround more new practices such as trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins into jack o’lanterns, telling scary stories, horror movies, and fun parties.

Creating the perfect Halloween sticker pack means transmitting what best Halloween has to offer. From design to spooky captions, a great Halloween sticker pack needs to have it all!

1. Be original

Stepping out of your comfort zone is vital to create great sticker packs. Great Halloween stickers should be direct enough so users understand the pack’s theme but original enough so many users would want to use it.

Rather than drawing a witch or a pumpkin, try to evoke the spirit of Halloween differently. For instance, why not a pack about funny Halloween customs? Or maybe, food-related zombies? Try to step out of the box and create something that unconventionally defines Halloween.

2. Use spooky puns

Here at Stipop, we are guilty… We love puns! No matter the situation, puns add another flavor to sticker packs, making chats more fun and witty. For Halloween, puns are a great tool to elevate your sticker pack. Take a look at our top favorites:

  1. Creepin’ it real
  2. Hello, gourd-geous
  3. Hallow-queen
  4. Don’t be a lazy bones
  5. It’s time to booo-gie
  6. Have a fang-tastic day!
  7. So Franken cute
  8. Resting witch face
  9. Ghouls just want to have fun
  10. You make me batty

3. Don’t get confused with other Holidays!

Lastly, don’t confuse Halloween with other holidays. Holidays like “Día de los muertos” are commonly mistaken for Halloween. The day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday that takes place on November 2nd and celebrates the dead. Despite using customs, it is an entirely different holiday.
